Using a General-Purpose Numerical Library to Parallelize an Industrial Application: Design of High-Performance Lasers

Ida de Bono and Daniela di Serafino and Eric Ducloux

Abstract
We describe the development of a parallel version of an industrial application software, used to simulate the propagation of optical beams inside diodes pumped rod lasers. The parallel version is based on the integration of a 2D FFT routine from a general-purpose parallel numerical library, the PINEAPL Library, which is under development within an ESPRIT project. We discuss some issues related to the integration of the library routine into the application software and report the obtained results.
